Synergy excels in providing specialized medical assessments tailored for forklift operators. This ensures compliance with safety regulations and also promotes the well-being of your workforce. This is because our experienced clinicians have a proven track record of expertise in occupational health. We also design our medicals to identify potential health risks and ensure that drivers are physically fit to operate forklifts safely. By selecting Synergy, you prioritize both the health of your employees and also the operational integrity of your forklift fleet, ensuring a secure and productive work environment.
Physical Examination
Synergy conducts a thorough physical examination to assess the overall health of the operator. This includes checking vital signs, mobility, strength, and also coordination.
Vision and Hearing Tests
Forklift operators need good vision and hearing to operate safely. So we conduct Vision and hearing tests to ensure that operators can perceive their surroundings and respond to alarms and signals effectively.
Musculoskeletal Assessment
Forklift operation often involves repetitive movements and lifting, therefore a musculoskeletal assessment helps identify any existing or potential issues related to bones, joints, and muscles.
Cardiovascular Evaluation
Forklift operators need a healthy cardiovascular system to manage the demands of their job. Cardiovascular assessments can therefore help identify any heart-related risks.
Optional Respiratory Assessment
At the request of the employer, we can also conduct an optional respiratory assessment, especially if operators work in environments where airborne contaminants are present.
Medical History Review
Synergy asks operators about their medical history. This is because we need to identify any pre-existing conditions or health concerns that could impact their ability to operate a forklift safely.
Optional Drug and Alcohol Screening
At the request of the employer, Synergy can also conduct optional drug and alcohol screening as part of the forklift truck medical. This is because it helps to ensure that operators are not under the influence of substances that could impair their ability to operate the forklift safely.
Fitness for Duty Determination
Based on the assessments, a medical professional determines if the operator is fit for duty, needs further evaluation, or requires specific accommodations to ensure safe forklift operation.
Counselling and Recommendations
The medical assessment may include counselling on healthy habits, lifestyle changes, and also recommendations to improve overall well-being.
Regulatory Compliance
Our medical assessments adhere to UK regulations, HSE guidelines, and also DVLA standards. Therefore they mandate the physical fitness of operators for safe forklift operation, promoting a compliant work environment.
Documentation
We generate a detailed medical report outlining findings, recommendations, and the operator’s fitness status. Our documentation is therefore in compliance with HSE and DVLA documentation requirements and UK record-keeping standards.
Frequency of Assessments:
According to DVLA rules, it’s a good idea to assess current and potential workplace vehicle operators for health before they start work and also every five years starting from age 45.
If someone has both a Group 2 driving license and also operates workplace vehicles, we can combine these assessments during the same check-up after age 45.
If a workplace vehicle operator continues working past age 65, they should have an annual health assessment.
Recommended Situations for Assessment:
After an absence of over a month, or even sooner if the illness could affect their ability to operate vehicles, it’s good practice to conduct a health assessment.
A worker’s fitness to return to general work might not mean they’re fit to operate vehicles. If there’s a doubt, it’s better to assess them for vehicle operation fitness. Also, if workplace vehicle operators or their employers suspect a health condition could impact their ability to operate vehicles, assessment is advisable.
Agreeing on Assessment:
Employers and employees should agree on when medical assessments will occur and equally importantly, what kind of assessments they need. This should also be made clear in the employment contract.
Remember that keeping everyone’s health in check is essential for safe workplace vehicle operations.
Medication:
Medication, whether from a doctor or bought without a prescription, might affect how safely workers operate vehicles at work. Workers operating vehicles should ask their doctor or pharmacist if their medication could impact safe driving.
If there’s a chance of medication causing problems, workers should let the employer know. They might need to stop operating vehicles until they understand how the medication affects them.
Alcohol and Illegal Drugs: No worker should drive or use machinery at work if they’ve had alcohol or used illegal drugs.
